Privacy policy
Refract keeps your content on your own devices unless you choose to use our cloud features. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Last updated October 14, 2026
Who we are
Refract (Refract Presenter, Refract Remote and Refract Stage, together the "apps") is made by edson engineering ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy can go to privacy@refract.live.
Where your content lives
Presentations, songs, scripture, media and settings in Refract Presenter are stored locally on your Mac. Refract Remote and Refract Stage connect to your Mac directly over your local network and do not send your content to our servers.
If you use Refract's cloud features, such as cloud sync and the web editor, the content you put in your cloud account is stored on our servers, hosted by Cloudflare in the United States. It is encrypted in transit and at rest, and we access it only to provide the service, to help you when you ask, or where the law requires it.
Information we collect
Information you send us
When you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and we use it only to reply and to help you.
Connected services, including Canva
If you connect a third-party service such as Canva, you sign in on that service's own page and grant Refract limited access. Refract uses that access only to do what you ask: show your designs and folders so you can choose one, and import the design you choose as slides.
- In the Mac app, access tokens are stored in your Mac's Keychain and imported designs are saved in your local library.
- In the web editor, access tokens are stored on our servers, encrypted and tied to your account, and imported designs are saved in your cloud account.
Tokens and imported content are never written to our logs. We do not sell or share data from connected services, or use it for analytics, advertising or training AI models.
Your Refract account
Cloud features, such as cloud sync, live audience tools and the web editor, require a Refract account. We store your account details (such as your name and email address) and the content you add to your cloud account.
Website
refract.live does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
How long we keep it
- Content in your local library stays on your devices until you delete it.
- Content in your cloud account is kept until you delete it or close your account.
- Connected-service tokens are kept only while the service is connected.
- When you close your Refract account, your cloud content, account details and stored tokens are permanently deleted within 30 days, including from backups.
- Support emails are kept for as long as needed to help you, then deleted.
Your choices
- Disconnect Canva or any other connected service at any time in the Mac app or the web editor. Refract revokes its access and deletes the stored tokens straight away, on your device and on our servers. You can also remove access from your Canva account settings, and Refract will clear its tokens the next time it tries to use them.
- Delete content from your library or cloud account at any time, or delete the apps to remove the local data they hold.
- Close your Refract account to delete everything we store in the cloud.
- Email privacy@refract.live to ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honour them.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. On your Mac, credentials are kept in the system Keychain rather than in plain files; on our servers, tokens and content are encrypted at rest. To report a security issue, email security@refract.live.
Children
Refract is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will give notice in the apps for significant changes.
